Sažetak
In the early 1990s terms like storage, indexing, and querying of spatial data were in the focus, and most efforts was given to developing data structures, formats and analog to digital conversion of spatial data. Acquisition, distribution, and utilization of geographic (or geospatial) data and mapping to support public and private sector applications of geospatial data stronger development starts with Bill Clinton executive order from 1994. The aim was to avoid wasteful duplication of effort and promote effective and economical management of resources among public authorities. Focus turns to organizations and technology for access to spatial data. Keywords for that time are INSPIRE, geoportals, web- services ... Today we are shifting to the inclusion of users outside of public authorities into SDI as key for the performance of the infrastructure. We focus on users and data quality, availability, usage, update and privacy. Public authorities end their responsibilities by making data available at geoportal. Users create new improved datasets but do not improve the infrastructure with that. Users act like authorities in previous times (keep the data for themselves). A question arises can this behaviour (interests) ensure sustainability and further development of SDI? The one way to go is Open Spatial Data Infrastructure which combines open data and spatial data infrastructure developments for benefits of society.
