Sažetak
The integrity of the pipelines in the gas industry is extremely important due to the serious consequences of pipelines failure. Disorders such as leakage and cracking due to detrition or damage as a result of sabotage or because of the influence of the external factors have adverse effects on safety, the environment, and the economy. Therefore, continuous condition monitoring of the gas pipelines is indispensable. Data on failures, failures mechanisms, and maintenance of these gas pipelines and their operation are increasingly important, especially real-time data. There are many technologies for condition monitoring and management of gas pipelines that are based on wired networks. The RFID technology is a wireless method of automatic identification, data collection, and tracking of objects in real-time. Advances in RFID technology made it ubiquitous, in particular in the field of logistics for tracking goods. However, more frequent applications are emerging, enabling RFID to be used in many ndustry areas, so this technology is becoming increasingly important for the real-time condition monitoring of gas pipelines. This paper aims to present an overview of the RFID technology and to highlight the possibilities, advantages, and challenges of using RFID technology in the condition monitoring of the gas pipelines.
