Sažetak
The serum concentrations of hormones are widely to diagnose thyroid and adrenocortical diseases in animals. Serum thyroxine (T4) concentrations are used clinically to asses thyroidal function in horses. serum cortisol concentration is considered to provide an indirect measurement of stress in horses. There have been no works attempted to determine total serum T4 and cortisol levels in Bosnia and Herzegovinian mountain horse breed. The objectives of the present study were to, for the first time, determine serum T4 and cortisol values in apparently healthy Bosnian and Herzegovinian mountain horses and to investigate the influences of age and gender on T4 and cortisol levels.
