Sažetak
The paper aims to present two ancient conceptions of affiliation, one offered by Aristotle and the other offered by the Stoics. I will concentrate on one particular aspect of affiliation, that is friendship. I would like to show that conception of affiliation as friendship can serve as an ancient proposal for the contemporary debate. The relevance of these conceptions of affiliation lies in the fact that they are considered within discussion on well-being and ancient debate shows the importance of affiliation for the achievement of well-being or human flourishing. In regards to that, I want to show that we should opt for Aristotle’s conception of affiliation based on the notion of friendship which shows that affiliation is integrative element in human flourishing. In contemporary debate this is recognized within Nussbaum’s version of capabilitarian approach, since she emphasizes capability for affiliation as an architectonic capability, together with practical reason, for human flourishing. However, the concept of affiliation remains vague in Nussbaum, so in the end I would like to suggest that it should be understood as an Aristotelian concept of friendship.
