Sažetak
Pelevin’s continuous interest in hybrid literary characters with dual zoo-anthropomorphic nature is analysed here primarily in the context of the author’s negative anthropology. Namely, the main presumption of negative anthropology, one of whose founders is Friedrich Nietzsche and his teaching about the Űbermensch, can be summed up as a belief that not only is man not the crown of creation, but is a lesser creation in many aspects in comparison to animals. Hence, man is something that needs to be overcome not necessarily by aiming at that which is superhuman, but rather by regressing into that which is animal, as is the case in this story. The frequency of hybrid characters in Pelevin’s prose can also be explained with the author’s inclination towards the neo-baroque poetics mirrored in his acceptance of the principle of the discordant concord of things (concordia discors), his fascination with the monstrous, and his pessimistic worldview caused by the feeling of transience, theatricality, and the illusory nature of life.
