Sažetak
The catastrophic events of the crisis and the eventual collapse of Yugoslavia at the end of the 1980s seem to possess a veritable philosophical sign of the times: Zoran Đinđić’s little book Yugoslavia as an Incomplete State. This attempt at providing a philosophical panacea to a real political and ideological crisis is not only remarkable due to its ironic fate – with Đinđić's gambit to recreate Yugoslavia as a nation-State being tragically ‘verified’ in the violence which has characterised the political projects of the nineties, which sought to ‘complete’ the Yugoslav State – but also due to the broader implications of its philosophical method. Does Đinđić’s evacuation of the emancipatory content of Yugoslavia reveal some more general problems pertaining to political philosophy in its encounter with politics? Does it reveal a limitation of political philosophy, its structural incapacity for registering political novelty? In confronting some general positions of the field of political philosophy, I show how the veritable account of the emancipatory content of the Yugoslav project needs to entail a suspension of the classical opposition between politics and the political.
