Sažetak
Puppet festivals are one of the very best formats in which to see the latest trends in contemporary puppet theatre. The 49th PIF (International Puppet Theater Festival) presented fine examples of the current relationship between movement, stage realization, and the use of text, music and sound effects in contemporary puppet theater. Sixteen troupes from ten countries performed in the official program and there were additional ensembles in the accompanying program. The grand prize and the children’s jury prize was awarded to the Mini Theater of Zagreb for their superb performance of Snow White. But some other performances, such as that of the puppet theatre from Kazakhstan, displayed a harmonious and seamless balance of animation, speech and sound. In their production, Who Plaits Manes to the Horse, the integration of five performers and puppets, speech and movement, music and singing was exemplary. The Sfumato ensemble from Sofia, Bulgaria, in their production, The Samsa Family also provided a superb example of harmony in movement, actuation, speech and sound.
