Sažetak
Problems of risk and protective factors for a development of conduct disorders in children and youth have become a rather important issue in modern society full of various impacts with undesirable outcomes on the development of young people. Since healthy and positive development of children and youth depends on the balance of protection and risks, attention should be directed to the finding of manner to cope with, strengthen and stimulate the development of protective factors and neutralize and render impossible the factors inciting the development of conduct disorders. This paper discusses a model of reinforcing advantages, that is, protective factors, which was developed from the researches at the Search Institute &#8211 ; ; Minneapolis, USA. The model is a result of a long research in the field of resilience of children at risk, children who have succeeded despite strong arguments to the contrary. In these children, certain protective factors evidently had effects. On the top of a list of these protections is the relation children have with competent, responsible and caring adults, starting from parents and extended family, to the school and community where a child lives. A healthy community, oriented towards positive development of children and youth, can represent a strong foothold for the setting and realization of programs that will include various preventive activities directed at the control of conduct disorders and their further development. This paper deals with an examination of differences if any, among communities of various sizes (county centers, smaller towns) in relation to the developmental advantages offered to children and youth. The research was conducted in 5 towns of various sizes while the sample consists of 248 children and youth of higher grades of elementary school (ranging from age 11 to 14). The creation of environment directed at the positive development of children, and the reinforcement of inner advantages they possess allows for a successful resistance to risks that exist in society. In addition, a new possibility opens which postulates that risks existing in a society could be minimized.
