Sažetak
FRAM (Free Radical Avoidance Mechanism) is depicted by the interaction of two chloroplast proteins, the TROL (thylakoid rhodanase-like protein) and the FNR (ferredoxin-NADP+ oxidoreductase). FNR catalyzes electron transfer from reduced ferredoxin (Fd) to NADP+, which is known as the final step in the linear electron transfer (LET) of vascular plant photosynthesis. TROL is an integral polytopic membrane protein that dynamically binds FNR and plays a role in LET. In the absence of TROL efficient electron sink is activated, which is so efficient, that outcompetes even methyl viologen (MV) in free radical propagation. Apparently, TROL-FNR interaction can partition electrons downstream of the photosystem I between electron-conserving and electron- dissipating pathways. This phenomenon is nicknamed FRAM. In Arabidopsis, FRAM is activated by combination of stresses and most likely represents efficient plant defense mechanism. FRAM can be manipulated in many ways and scenarios, and can be incorporated into plants tailored for the future climate change scenarios, or even Space colonization.
