Though frequently treated as an eminent theoretical heritage of the '68 turn, the critique of the so called representational paradigm is to be found in an admirably elaborated form already in the work of distinguished modernist thinkers. In the following paper I shall try to follow this modernist thread up to some of its manifestations which are usually declared to be postmodernist.
