Sažetak
This article deals with a historiographic tradition that is totally unknown in Spain and that differs from the orientations of that of the former countries of Central and Eastern Europe under socialist systems. The author starts from a discussion about the number of Yugoslav volunteers who came to Spain (among which Tito never figured) and explains to Spanish readers the importance of the Spanish Civil War in the construction of a Yugoslav identity after the victory of Tito in World War II and the break with Stalin. The former volunteers held positions of great relevance in the Titular Yugoslavia and contributed, through their association, to keep the memory and significance of the struggle in Spain in their bones.
