Sažetak
Flowers have been used for human nutrition and treating since ancient times. Over time, the trend in the use of floral species in the nutrition has changed.Consumption of flowers on one side can be considered exclusive food, while on the other side, flowers represent a rich source of nutritious and medicinal substances. Thanks to scientific achievements, it is possible to determine the content of useful and harmful ingredients of floral species, and therefore their use in modern medicine. Bearing in mind the need for finding new sources of food and medicinal raw materials, the present paper presents the current knowledge of the nutritional and medicinal values of popular floral species: Tagetes patula L., Tropaeolum majus L. and Viola tricolor L.
