Sažetak
Introducing student-centred learning (SCL) in teaching and learning in higher education has recently become a very common subject of discussion. This is evidenced by numerous European educational policies as well as an increased research interest for this topic. This experience report will present a case study of the attempt to introduce SCL into a subject within the educational sciences graduate study programme. The aim is to analyse the students’ and teacher’s activities within the subject which focused on implementing the principles of SCL by means of emphasizing students’ responsibility for their learning process and respecting their interests and preferences in terms of what and how they will learn and how they will evaluate what they have learned. The case study indicates that the main challenge refers to student participation and responsibility in terms of evaluating their own and others’ work, which raised two important issues. The first one is related to the possibilities of introducing student centred learning in an educational culture which does not sufficiently nurture neither responsibility for one’s own learning nor collegial relationships. The other issue is related to the students’ abilities for taking on an active role which student-centred learning requires of them. This latter issue is particularly important for educational sciences students due to the fact that this case study also analysed students’ willingness and abilities to professionally deal with evaluating teaching and learning as an important aspect of their future profession.
