Sažetak
Health surveillance of workers employed in workplaces encountering special working conditions in Croatia is regulated by law and should be performed regularly. There is a survey in progress on the number of periodic health exams of workers who work in special working conditions that derive the necessity of continuous health surveillance. Data, received from occupational health services, cover those special working conditions and health surveillance of workers in all economic activities in Croatia. It is gathered and kept in the Register of CIOH. For this study, we analysed all the data received in 2006. The average age of workers exposed to occupational hazards was 39, 26 years. In 2006 there were 153 794 periodic health examinations of workers employed in special working conditions which present 10, 88% of the working population in Croatia. Occupational hazards were present mainly in the manufacturing and construction industry, supported by the number of examinations 40 087 (26, 06%) and 44 774 (29, 11%) respectively. In all activities, there were mainly mechanical (21%) and chemical (17%) hazards and noise (12%). At present, Croatia has 286 657 employed in manufacturing and 120 290 in construction which is manifold higher than the count of examinations. Some economic indicators show that the number of examined workers should be much higher than we found. Having in mind an average worker is 40 years of age (until regular retirement he has to work for another 25 years) a better insight on the exact number of those workers and their health surveillance should be milestones of prevention of occupational and work-related diseases.
