Sažetak
Objectives: At the present time typical manual material handling jobs have a variety of different work components that make use of the measuring methods somewhat difficult. For example, workers are often required to lift, carry, hold, and lower loads that vary in location and weight during the entire shift. Typical examples are agriculture, animal breeding, construction, nursing and care or the warehousing operations by majority done manually in majority of countries worldwide. These jobs have so many different task components that it is not practical to analyze each task. In addition, workers often rotate jobs, from one job having manual handling of heavy loads component and other repetitive movements of the arms and hands. This proves that manual handling of loads is a risk that has to be evaluated for the purposes of prevention. Methods: Literature was searched to provide an overview of different risk assessment methods and their use in analyzing tasks with manual materials handling. Results: Three different methods were chosen from the literature, all three assessing manual handling. Their advantages and shortcomings of applying these methods in risk assessment are displayed. Results are inspiring for further discussion, eventually, it shows that in the future, we need to concentrate on providing insight into the musculoskeletal risks of jobs and careers, instead of tasks. Conclusion: One- fit all method for assessing risks of manual materials handling is still nonexistent. Today, the greatest need in preventing manual materials handling injuries is understanding the cumulative effects of work tasks done over days, years, and finally a work career.
