Sažetak
The legacy of Vasko Lipovac (1931-2006) [1], one of the most significant Croatian artists of the 20th century, is kept in his Atelier in Split with the exception of the vast amount of works which are part of museum collections all over the world. The Atelier is managed by his family and open to the public. Lipovac used the most diverse materials, colors, shapes as well as techniques in the most unusual combinations. The various materials from his abundant artistic production should be observed and analyzed individually in order to be properly preserved. Recently, four wooden reliefs painted with acrylic paint were found and they are a part of a composition from which two elements are permanently missing. As the existing elements are damaged, in order to decide on the appropriate conservation procedure, it is necessary to analyze the composition of the paint, pigments and binders. The cleaning system that has to be both effective and gentle enough not to damage the original layer of paint will be determined after the analysis. Moreover, the type of paint that will be used for retouching the zones where the original ground and paint layers are missing can also be chosen after all analytical results are obtained. The aim of this research is to determine the composition of the pigments by using TXRF and XRD analysis [2] in order to identify the methodology of the conservation treatment after which the reliefs can be exhibited in the Lipovac Atelier.
