Microbial Barrier Permeability, Military Purposes, Woven Fabric Structures
Sažetak
Functionality, i.e. the protection of the user, is of utmost importance for fabrics designed for military purposes. Woven fabric structural parameters and finishing processes greatly affect the definition and achievement of high set properties de-mands of both woven fabric and finished clothing, depending on the end- use. Considering the application conditions of military fabrics and the high exposure to microorganisms from environment, as well as from the direct and indirect transfer between users, the possibility of contamination is unavoidable. There-fore, the aim of this paper is to determine whether and to what extent military fab-rics have the properties of microbial barrier permeability. Determination of mi-crobial barrier permeability was conducted according to the newly developed method. The most resistant forms of microorganisms were used, the bacterial en- dospores of apatogenic species: Geobacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus atrophaeus. The analysis of the obtained results as well as the correlation rela-tions between some relevant fabrics properties are presented based on which the conclusions were defined. Tested woven fabrics designed for military purposes shows very good microbial barrier permeability with different adhesion of micro-organisms, conditioned by the complex woven fabric structure.
