Sažetak
In earthquake resistant design, the members of reinforced concrete (RC) frame with unreinforced masonry (URM) infill wall structures are commonly distinguished in primary (frame) and secondary (infill) elements. Primary elements are designed and detailed as load-bearing elements (moment-resisting frames) to resist seismic action. Secondary elements are usually not designed and their effect on the global response is most often inadequately considered or even neglected. This consequentially causes significant uncertainty in structure response estimates. Additionally, secondary elements can undergo simultaneous in-plane (IP) and out-of-plane loading (OoP) due to spatial nature of seismic action. The OoP overturning effects are in fact increased by the shear cracking damage due to the horizontal in-plane components of seismic action and the inter-story drift in the OoP direction, which causes the separation from the upper beam [1]. Thus the mechanical (stiffness) property ratio between the primary and the secondary element affects the single as well as composite behavior of the structure. In this paper, the influence of the mechanical and geometrical properties of masonry infills and RC frame on the out-of-plane behavior of masonry infill’s as well as global structural response will be investigated. Especially the aspect of weak and strong frames and infill walls will be discussed. Therefore, the failure mechanisms of the URM infill walls as well as the RC frame elements will be numerically simulated by using a recently implemented macro-model [2]. The seismic performance will be evaluated on the basis of global (inter-story drift ratio) and local (deformations) response quantities. Hence a set of reinforced concrete RC frame structures with URM infill walls with different number of stories will be subjected to a set of scaled ground motions compatible with German code spectra in order to investigate the typical damage pattern and to quantify the damage for RC frames representing different story classes.
