Sažetak
Arnold Gehlen is one of the most controversial figures in German intellectual history. Gehlen's commitment to National Socialism is mostly seen in close connection with his theoretical focus on institutions. According to Gehlen, what man requires above all is order, that is, protection through institutions. However, the scope of Gehlen's sociology reaches beyond the necessity of order. Its strength lies less in the theory of institutionalization than in the attempt to comprehend change, that is, the conceptual clarification of the interplay between radical innovation and institutionalization.
