Sažetak
Aim: To compare PD-L1 expression in bronchoscopic exfoliative samples (bronchial washing/brushing (BW/BB) and transbronchial fine needle aspirations (TBFNA). Materials and methods: Archive records of the result of PD-L1 expression were compared in relation to specimen type (BW/BB, TBFNA) at our clinic over a one- year period. Air dried non-cell block cytology slides of NSCLC were stained with Anti-PD-L1, Clone 22C3, Dako on Autostainer. PD-L1 protein expression was scored by using Tumor Proportion Score (TPS) with positive cut-off of ≥1%. The slides were routinely examined and scored by two cytologists. Result: Out of 415 cytological smears that underwent PD-L1 scoring in our study we have included 216 smears of materials collected during bronchoscopy. There were 157 (72, 6%) of bronchial washing/brushings and 59 (27, 3%) TBFNA samples. PD-L1 scored negative in total of 111 (51, 4%) samples. PD-L1 scored positive in total of 105 (48, 6%) samples of which 72 (45, 8%) were bronchial washing/brushing and 33 (55, 9%) TBFNA. Results were comparable with literature data. PD-L1 expression with positive scores ≥50% were in 57 (54, 3%) samples ; 43 (59, 7%) were bronchial washing/brushings and 14 (42, 4%) TBFNAs. Comparison in PD-L1 expression between exfoliative and TBFNA materials showed no statistical significant difference among groups (X2 test, df 1, p=0, 186). Comparison between two groups of PD-L1 positive ≥ 50% showed no statistical significant difference among groups (X2 test, df 1, p=0, 098). Conclusion: Although there is some difference in percentage in our study there were no statistical significant differences in PD- L1 protein expression between bronchial washing/brushing and transbronchial fine needle aspiration.
