Sažetak
Mariculture in the Republic of Croatia has a long tradition and as such it includes cultivation of white fish, blue fish and shellfish. An interesting fact is that breeding in Europe has started just on teritory of Republic Croatia and as such it has maintained until today. By joining the European Union membership, numerous opportunities are available for further development and progress of this activity. Republic of Croatia has made National Strategic Development Plan of Fishing according to the regulations of Council Regulation (EZ) num. 1198/2006 about the European Fund for Fishing in which are given strategic and development guidelines for this activity for a period from 2014 to 2020, in harmony with a common fisheries policy. Aim and purpose of this work is to analyze current state of mariculture in the Republic of Croatia and to compaire this activity with other countries in the European Union. Also, the aim of this work is to estimate perspectives of development as well as positioning mariculture in Republic of Croatia within the framework of European Union member states.
