Sažetak
Pierre Bourdieu is, according to Jacob Taubes, "probably the first to bring down Ernst Cassirer's 'philosophy of symbolic forms' from the theoretical sky to the social scientific earth." Based on this assumption, the present study compares the cultural theories of Cassirer and Bourdieu with respect to the question of the effect of cultural phenomena. Particular attention is paid to three aspects: Cassirer's move to Bourdieu from a universalization to a historicization of symbolic forms, the interaction between symbolic and social forms, which Bourdieu went beyond Cassirer, and, in connection with this, the concurrence of Cassirer's works and Bourdieu's borrowings from Simmel's formal cultural sociology.
