Sažetak
Multilingual dictionaries of the Renaissance and early seventeeth century played a major role in the promulgation of the various national languages. Dictionarium quinque nobilissimarum Europae linguarum, Latinae, Italicae, Germanicae, Dalmati[c]ae et Ungaricae, compiled by Faustus Verantius [Faust Vrančić] and published in Venice in 1595, responded to the trend. Moreover, it is considered to be the first dictionary of the Croatian language to appear in print and the first Hungarian dictionary as well. The total of about 5800 Croatian words shows a significant diversity of topics ranging from body parts, diseases, plants and animals, clothes and colours to crafts and professions, numbers and measures etc., which traditionally belong to topical lexicography. However, there is a number of categories devoted to man-related domains, in particular characterizations of man, his actions towards other people and things, mediated by language or not, social institutions as well as his intellectual world (Thinking, speech, communication). Some are more elaborated than others, some are tangled. To all intents and purposes, it is the world of human beings, their achievements, their features and doings, which breathes a time-related Humanist spirit.
