Sažetak
Before the global economic crisis, the EU economy had strong economic growth that is accompanied with huge consumption growth in many EU members, big capital flows among countries, increase of productivity. Even in these “ideal” circumstances, the EU members could be divided on the EU “center” and EU “periphery”. During the global crisis, the heterogeneities among member states increased and many countries were included in Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure (MIP). The aim of this research is to analyze the characteristics of EU members included in MIP and to find out possible division on the center and periphery in the EU in the period before crisis and nowadays. The variables included in the analysis are 14 MIP indicators. We apply Eurostat database and cluster analysis. We found the EU members could be clustered, but the contents (members) of clusters differ regarding the indicators observed, so there is no clear division on “core-periphery” regarding the MIP indicators.
