Sažetak
The paper presents an overview of some options in design of resilient all-optical networks. The first part discusses possible architectures of all-optical network, along with various switching schemes. The emphasis is on the WDM all-optical network that can provide service to multiple higher layer protocols. This is followed by the overview of protection and restoration (P&R) scenarios and mechanisms is given in both mesh and ring based networks. The paper ends with definitions of some survivability measures used in the literature that can be used when comparing P&R mechanisms.
