Summary: The main goal of treatment is to lessen the brain damage due to ischemia and the neurological deficit due to stroke. The zone encircling the ischemic part with partial disturbance of energetic capacity is called penumbra. Most important is to start the treatment as early as possible in specialized intensive care units (ICU) within 3 to & hours from the onset of the disease The basic aim is .to confirm the diagnosis and exclude the states that can show the features of Stroke, and the application of specific treatment can even worsen the outcome: The current treatrnent of ischemic stroke is limited to a small number of specific therapeutic procedures and very narrow frame of time. Still many .medications are applied in a wrong conviction that they are effective and Safe for the patient.
