Sažetak
Among different types of nanoparticles, particularly interesting are silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) because of their antibacterial and antifungal properties, due to which they have been implemented in various commercial products. However, unique properties allow them to interact with living organisms. Plants can serve as a potential pathway for AgNP transport and bioaccumulation into food chains and any negative effects of AgNPs on plants could cause significant changes in the ecosystem, potentially causing irreversible damage. Understanding the nature of plant interactions with nanoparticles is crucial for assessing their uptake and distribution as well as AgNP-induced changes in plant morphology and physiology. This chapter reviews the current knowledge on phytotoxicity assessment and interactions of AgNPs with plants at the whole plant and organ as well as cellular and molecular level and highlights issues that still need to be explored in order to improve our knowledge in this field.
