Sažetak
Through modification of lifestyles, risk factors and health care, stroke incidence and stroke outcome are changing. In order to evaluate the incidence of stroke and its outcome, we compared the year 1990 and 1999. We evaluated the data of patients admitted to Neurology department in the year 1990 and 1999. We evaluated and compared the following: incidence of stroke and stroke subtype, frequency of risk factors and outcome. Data are presented as absolute numbers and percentages. In 1990. 662 patients were hospitalized: 378 women (74, 6 f 16, 3 years), 284 men (72 f 14, 8 years): In 1999. 1284 patients were admitted: 731 women (69 f 15, 1 years), 553 men (67, 3 f 13, 8 years). In 1990. there were 256 (37%) first ever strokes, and in 1999. 783 (61%). In 1990. in females, there were 64, 28% of strokes, 14, 02% of TIA, I, 85% of subarachnoidal haemorrhages (SAH), and 19, 84% of deaths. In 1999 there were 64, 84% of strokes, 31.6% of TIA, 2, 73% of SAH, and 14, 77% of deaths. In 1990. in mates there were 50, 7% of strokes, 17.6% of TIA, 3, 87% of SAH, and 54, 22% of deaths. In 1999. In males there were 69, 62% of strokes, 28, 39% of TIA, 3, 43% of SAH, and 12, 29% of deaths. The percentage of hypertension in 1999 has increased 20% compared to 1990, other risk factors have not shown significant changed. In 1990. 41, 2% patients were discharged home, 48, 8% to rehabilitation center and 5 ; 7% to nursery home. In 1999 60% patients were discharged home, 30, 8% to rehabilitation center and 5, 8% to nursery home. In 1999 there were almost double stroke patients. Stroke patients were 5 years younger then in 1990. There were more first ever strokes (61% versus 37%), hypertension was found more often (20%). Patients were discharged more often home (60% versus 41.2% ) and mortality was reduced (12.3% versus 27.4%).
