Sažetak
The low affinity Ige receptor (CD23) is a multifunctional molecule that is capable of regulating the synthesis of human IgE. Previous studies by others have revealed increases in CD23+ cells in the peripheral circulation of atopic subjects including patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). The aim of the present study was to measure the expression of CD23 on peripheral blood B-lymphocytes from patients with AD and healthy controls and to evaluate the expression of CD23 in relation to total IgE. The study comprised 40 patients with AD and 20 healthy subjects. The results showed mostly normal expression of CD23 (30/40), but 10 out of 40 patients with AD had high expression of CD23. We also noted that patients with AD had higer percentage of CD23-positive cells than healthy controls. No correlation was noted in the AD patients between total serum IgE and CD23 or CD4 levels, but it was found between total serum IgE and positive skin tests.
