Sažetak
The role of the higher educational institutions, beside scientific and educational is also social impact in local community, but as well as development of student’s various competencies. Educational process has many directions of student’s development. Educational programs in STEM courses that include service learning in their curriculums broaden the set of skills, competences and values student develop during the studying. Therefore, social service programs contribute to the development and improvement study programs at University of Split. Programs for students in STEM area are very focuses on academic knowledge in specific area and in very small number of courses they have option to develop transversal skills. Transversal skill are important for many aspects of life and practicing them during studying contributes to a student professional development. Students of Faculty and Technology, University of Split involved in social service programs for sustainable development claimed that their transversal skills were improved. Implementation of service learning programs enabled actively engaged students to develop the holistic approach in problem solving and foster their lifelong learning capacities. This paper gives an insight on importance of service learning program, an innovative model in education, for student transversal skills development.
