Sažetak
INTRODUCTION: Two low doses of chlortalidone (12.5 and 25 mg per day) have been compared in a cross-over, double-blind study in 30 mild to moderate hypertensives of either gender, most of whom had developed the problem recently. RESULTS: The antihypertensive effects of both doses were comparable, with an approximately 8% reduction in mean arterial pressure ; also, plethismographic parameters such as peak flow, venous capacity and venous outflow increased significantly with both doses. CONCLUSION: The 12.5 mg dose of chlortalidone appear to be as effective as an antihypertensive agent as the 25 mg dose, with possibly much less adverse effects.
