Sažetak
Deep-sea sediments have very good preservation potential, and they commonly reveal almost complete stratigraphic record. Herein we focus on mass-flow deposits, particularly so-called megabeds/megaturbidites whose thicknesses sometimes exceds 100 m. Their triggers were exceptional events in the basin history (commonly interpreted as massive seismic shock), because the rest of the sequence is composed of thin-to medium-bedded turbidites. We speculate that the K-S megabed mass-flow was triggered by a seismic shock induced by relatively close impact, whereas the other two were deposited in considerably later times and their parent mass-flows were probably caused by a common triggering mechanism. The occurrence of magnetic sphaerules and microtektites possibly documents two younger distant impacts.
