Sažetak
The lignite reserves in China are over 130 billion tons, accounting for 13% of the total coal reserves in China[1]. As a low-rank coal, the moisture and volatile contents in lignite are high, which induces a series of problems such as spontaneous combustion, fragmentation, weather deterioration in terms of its transportation, storage, and utilization. Several upgrading methods aimed at improving coal property so that it could be utilized in a wider range had been proposed. Among these methods, low temperature pyrolysis upgrading is promising as upgraded coal could be used in metallurgy, chemical industry as well as domestics stove fuel. The effects of pyrolysis upgrading on semi-char property has been widely studied, as well as pyrolysis upgrading technology. However, fine particle formation characteristics from upgraded semi-char combustion have not received enough attention. Investigation on fine particle formation characteristics could provide reference for the wiser application of upgraded coal, especially in coal-firing power plants. In this article, XilinGol lignite was chosen to undergo low temperature pyrolysis in a fixed bed reactor under different temperatures. The raw coal and its upgraded semi-chars were characterized with several methods. The effects of low temperature pyrolysis upgrading on coal property were studied. The samples were then combusted in an entrained flow reactor. The particles formed during combustion were collected by PM10 cyclone and DLPI. Particle size distribution and element composition were obtained.
