Sažetak
Music and speech are not the same functions - they are different in the majority of theit elements. Neither is the localisation of both functions. Speech is always centred in the dotn4 nant hemisphere. The musical function is centred in the dominant hemisphere only in musically educated and sophisticated people. Since these people are not so common, this is more exception than the rule - so musical function is generally in nondominant hemisphere. Amusia - the music impairment does not always go with aphasia. Music abilities of aphasic patient are ina larger degree retained than speaking abilities. Music is one of the most favourable means fot approaching in aphasic patients. A good effect on aphasic patient is obtained by a general favourable atmosphere, which means light music as a background. In the active approach it is necessary to find out favourite kind of music and songs the aphasic patient likes, but to sing or whistle, not only to listen. After imding out the right approach by music therapy in aphasic patient, each slightly better success in singing, than the one shown as being standard for speech, gives the aphasic patient enormous support, encouragement and hope for further recovery, thereby making him exercise more. Furthermore we discuss neurological interpretation of musical skills that is musical components of singing and speaking voice. We compare speech and singing, especially concerning their biological and sociological similarity and differences. It is necessary to estimate a psychological profile of the aphasic patient with emphasis on the psychological approach that has to be individual. On the basis of literature and our own experience we emphasize the importance of methodology (the length of ~the setting and of the whole treatment, music tempo, song theme etc.) as well as complexity of music therapy treatment (together with pictures, written text etc.)
