Sažetak
In this paper electrocoagulation (EC) process for the removal of heavy metals from compost, leachate was investigated. Compost leachate generated by processing of biodegradable waste in the composting plant Kogal, Slovenia. All experiments were performed in EC reactor with Al electrodes on optimal condition which defined with preliminary experiments. current, voltage U=15 V, electrode distance r=3 cm and area/volume ratio 15 m2 m-3. The aim of this work was to simulate removal efficiency of Zn 2+ and Cu 2+ from leachate, according to the first order reaction. Nonlinear regression analysis of experimental data was performed in order to detrmine the reaction rate constant. In adition to heavy metal ions, the amount of organic substances quantified as chemical oxygen demand (COD) was examined. The obtained results of simulation removal efficiency are important for determination of dynamic of process and determination of time EC for maximal efficiency of removal metals
