Sažetak
The Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly), Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann (Diptera: Tephritidae), is widespread fruit pest of great economic importance. It is a highly polyphagous species with a wide host range. In Mediterranean countries it is particularly damaging on citrus, peach, fig and persimmon. It has been present in the Northern Adriatic area since the middle of the 20th century. In the area of Istria it was found for the first time in 1958, around Koper and Reka. Today it is present in all Mediterranean and Balkan countries, Slovenia represents the most northern area of its occurrence. The results of two years monitoring of medfly show that the pest is well established and widespread in the area of Slovenian and Croatian Istria. The population size and dynamics of C. capitata in different seasons depends on weather conditions. In Slovenian Istria the population may vary considerably between different years, yield losses have been recorded only occasionally. In Croatian Istria, mostly in the southern part, the population of medfly is more stable, nevertheless the pest does not cause serious economic losses.
