Sažetak
Small countries strongly depend on international trade relations with other countries, especially on the most important trade partners. In view of high export and import orientation to EU markets, Croatia needs adjustment to EU. This process results in a number of effects: benefits, as well as some costs that cannot be ignored. Although there is a considerable economic literature on integration, there has been no original research study which would measure the quantitative effects of integration on the Croatian economy. Without such quantitative simulation results, the paper attempts to throw some light upon this topic and analyzes the static and dynamic effects of integration. The analysis is based on small country assumption and specific economic position of Croatia due to transition from a regional to a national economy. As the process of adjustment to EU concerns competitiveness of Croatian firms, the analysis will include Porter's diamond of competitive advantages.
