Sažetak
A small number of patients infected with the West Nile Virus (WNV) will present with central nervous system (CNS) complications. They consist of meningitis, encephalitis and myelitis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings have been reported in approximately one third of cases. They comprise of the: increased signal on T2 weighted image (WI) and fluid attenuation inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence. Diffusion weighted image (DWI) may show hyperintense signal with decreased apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in the early stage of illness even when conventional MRI is normal. The purpose of this case series is to review the spectrum of MRI findings in the brain and spine in patients treated at the University Hospital for Infectious Diseases (UHID) in Zagreb, Croatia, from January 2016 to December 2018 and investigate the correlation between imaging findings and the clinical presentation.
