Sažetak
The differences between ethics and morality are often misunderstood by different social groups and they even overlap. But, there is a clear distinction between them in the philosophical sense and in the ordinary life as well. Ethics is considered a fundamental philosophical discipline and it is not the same as morality, for it is Philosophy of Morals. Both ethics and morality are related to the “right” and “wrong” behaviour. However, ethics implies the sets of rules that are provided to the individual by the external source (society, profession, laws, religion, etc.), while morality implies an individual`s principles or habits with respect to the “right” and “wrong”. Despite of that, it seems that people often use the two terms as synonyms in everyday language, although they believe they know and understand the differences. Considering the aforementioned things, the aim of this research was to investigate into the perception of the differences between ethics and morality by two different social groups in the academic community: the teaching staff and the students. It was decided that the best method to adopt for this investigation was to conduct a questionnaire of 14 questions among the teachers (20 of 22) and the students of the terminal semester (19 of 20). The results of the survey have shown that the teachers have better theoretical knowledge than the students. However, the number of contradictory answers onto specific questions suggests that both groups often confuse the right meaning of the concepts of ethics and morality in everyday language.
