Sažetak
The recent scientific literature encourages investigation of attitudes toward sport and physical education is a very frequent subject of research in kinesiology. At the moment, in the Republic of Croatia, the only organized form of education which includes the area of physical education and in which all children are included is primary education. The objective of this research was to explore gender and age differentiation of students' perceptions about the importance of physical activity as predictors of the same with the sample range between 5th and 8th elementary school grade students (N=157). Two- factor 2 x 4 ANOVA for independent samples was used to identify the significance of the main effects of gender and class factors and their interaction effects. The results indicate that the main effects of the factors sex (F1, 149=0.027 ; p=0.870 ; n2=0.000), age factor (F3, 149=0.961 ; p=.413, n2=0.019) as well as interaction effects of gender x age were not statistically significant. Statistically significant difference by gender is only with the 8th-grade examinees in practising physical activity in their free time. According to data, intrinsic motivation is a significant prerequisite for each activity. Results can serve the creators of physical activities programs and projects aimed at children and young people, as well as designing these programs and projects.
