Sažetak
This lecture will provide various perspectives on the psycholexical approach to different phenomena in psychology, not just personality. The given perspectives will be both historical and content-driven. The psycholexical approach is mostly viewed as the fuel that propelled the Big-Five model of personality traits, however, the approach was found useful in several other areas in psychology. Among the most prominent were: social and reputational aspects of personality, values, virtues, and morality. The lecture will briefly sketch the historical development of the Big-Five model, the degree of universality through emic and etic studies, and challenges to the model through structural alternatives. The degree of Big-Five replication will be given through findings grouped per language family. A possibility of the consensual trait model will also be presented. The lecture will also draw on potential applications of the psycholexical approach to other word-classes beyond adjectives that were the most frequent object of research within the lexical approach and to other personality-descriptive categories beyond dispositions. A special emphasis will be given to reputations. Finally, the lecture will cover the newer attempts to apply the psycholexical approach to studying the fields of values, virtues, and morality.
