Sažetak
During the academic year 2016/2017, University of Rijeka students of Urban Engineering at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (seventeen regular University of Rijeka students and four students taking part of the University Erasmus exchange programme), attending the course Public Buildings and Spaces, worked out concept designs for the reuse of the abandoned facility of Energana, former Paper Mill power plant in Ružić Street in Rijeka, within the theme of buildings of public purpose. As two groups of students worked with two different teams of lecturers, also with different pre-knowledge of design, the question arises as to whether different methods of education didactics and approach to design may have affected their concept designs, also if their works achieved the satisfactory level. This paper gives an overview of approaches made in students’ works as well as conclusions on the results of concept designs, also their significance as a contribution to the restoration of this important heritage of the City of Rijeka.
