Sažetak
In a modern, globalized society, information and communication technology (ICT) is considered as one of the most important drivers of continuous growth and development of almost every national economy. Despite the advantages that ICT provides in achieving efficient production, faster economic development and successful absorption of new knowledge and technology, the role of the ICT sectors in the economy, especially the part that quantifies the importance of the ICT sectors and the interaction among the ICT sectors is not sufficiently researched, especially for Croatia. Based on the advantages and disadvantages of certain methodological approaches in the field of input-output analysis used in the relevant theoretical literature which focuses on the identification of direct, indirect and induced effects of a particular sector, the modified model of ICT sectors extraction is developed. The modified model of ICT sectors extraction in the input- output system for the first time empirically quantified the contribution of the ICT sectors to the Croatian economy in terms of the most important economic indicators of success and competitiveness of the national economy, i.e. in terms of output, gross value added and employment. The proposed model also provides a tool for monitoring the interaction among sectors of interest related to cross- sectoral and intra- sectoral deliveries of the ICT sectors. Empirical results point to the conclusion that contribution of aggregated ICT sector to Croatian economy increased in the post-recession period. Contribution of ICT services as computer programming, telecommunication and related services is more intensive in comparison to ICT manufacturing industry.
