Sažetak
In this paper we will investigate the adequacy of a split between science and religion. Transhumanist movement, as a movement that promotes rational humanism instead of religious authority and usage of scientific methods in order to enhance our biology will be taken as an example of the scientific approach to human nature. Comparison of transhumanism and religious positions will show that they share the same metaphysical background. This similarity between them can also be seen in an eschatological approach to the existence and in the need for the body abandonment. Furthermore, “progressive” transhumanist have another mutual characteristic with religious thinking in the way they observe the relation between free will and determinism. In their common metaphysical hierarchical approach to the order of the being, transhumanists see Man as an absolute being on the top of this hierarchy, while monotheistic religions traditionally advocate for the government of God. Therefore, the question which remains opened is what kind of metaphysics is more adequate for human beings: theo-ontology or anthropo-ontology?
