Sažetak
While there have been several studies with a specific focus on volunteer translators’ motivation, this field of inquiry remains relatively under-researched. A diverse range of methods, either quantitative, in the form of questionnaire surveys, or qualitative, in the form of interviews and discourse analysis of translators’ blog entries, have been employed to examine and describe a number of volunteer translator communities and the mechanisms propelling their efforts. This study aims to examine several Croatian fansubbing communities using a mixed-method approach in order to provide a comprehensive and nuanced insight into the communities’ motives. In addition, it aims to establish and refine a type of research methodology which would reach beyond the limitations of currently available data on volunteer motivation and encompass a wide range of personal and social factors.
