Sažetak
Fats are essential for animal life, not just as a source of energy, but as well as essential components of membranes. FAs without double bonds are considered to be saturated (SFAs), FAs with one double bond are referred to as monounsaturated (MUFAs) or FAs with more double bonds are referred to as polyunsaturated (PUFAs). Separation and detection of FAs is usually carried out by gas chromatography (GC) after lipid extraction and methylation. Determination of the FAs composition of body fluids and tissues using GC is of utmost importance because disorders in fatty acid metabolism are associated with diseases of organic systems and can be used as nutritional and health markers. Our investigation of composition of adipose tissue in brown bears (Ursus arctos) revealed that gender, season, and body mass significantly affected the FAs composition of subcutaneous adipose tissue. Both females and males had higher percentages of SFAs and MUFAs in subcutaneous adipose tissue in spring than in autumn, while the percentage of PUFAs was higher in autumn. In milk production transition dairy cows often enter a stage of negative energy balance during which the utilization of energy reserves is reflected in the milk fatty acid composition. Our research showed lower percentages of SFAs in milk and higher percentages of MUFAs, PUFAs, and C18:1n-9 in early lactation compared to mid-lactation. The results suggest that determination of milk FAs is a potential indicator of energy status in dairy cows. Reproductive function of spermatozoa depends on composition and ratio of lipids which are essential for membrane fluidity, acrosome reaction and thus sperm fertility competence. Our research of subpopulation of live German Landrace spermatozoa showed higher percentage of C18:3n3 and lower percentage of C18:2, C20:4n6 compared to dead spermatozoa. Based on results it can be concluded thus fertility competence can be influenced among others by composition of fatty acids. Differentiation and maturation of oocytes depends on the composition of the follicular fluid. Our research of follicular fluid showed higher percentage of C18:1c9, C20:5n-3 and MUFAs in follicles <5 mm compared to follicles >10 mm. Results also showed significantly lower ratio of C20:4n-6 and C22:5n-3 in follicles sized <5 mm compared to follicles more than 10 mm in diameter. Our data show that differences in lipid composition of follicular fluid are associated with stage of follicle growth and development. Research of FA composition of different tissues and body fluids can give an insight on individual nutrition, physiological and immunological state.
