Sažetak
The use of aerial and satellite imagery has greatly improved archaeological research in karst areas and enabled the development of a fully blown landscape archaeology. A particular issue in karst areal archaeology is the problem of determination and interpretation of particular structures from areal imagery in terms of period and function. The most common features in karst include various drystone wall structures such as livestock enclosures, clearance features, boundary walls etc. The visibility of these structures varies according to the period of building, preservation, vegetation cover etc. The village of Golubić near Zadar will serve as an example to illustrate some of the technical issues in detection and interpretation of structures in karst areas. Data acquired from aerial imagery will then be integrated with other sources such as field survey, historical records, interviews with the local population etc. in order to elucidate the development of a historical landscape of a village in Dalmatian hinterland. The village of Golubić features various archaeological remains from prehistory to the present. Therefore, this area is particularly appropriate to illustrate some of the issues regarding the development and changes in land use, land division, settlement patterns etc.
