Sažetak
The capacity of activated sludge for nitrification and denitrification was monitored in batch experiments. Nitrification at different environmental conditions (pH and dissolved oxygen), and denitrification at different C/N ratios were performed. Sodium acetate (NaAc) was used as a source of carbon at a ratio of C/N 1-5. The nitrification process resulted in total nitrification at pH 7, 2-7, 3 and pH 7, 9-8, 0 at DO>1 mg/L. Nitritation was favorized at pH 7, 9-8, 0 and DO<1 mg/L. Denitrification at a rate of 45, 6 mg NO3-N/Lh, and the specific denitrification at a rate of 11, 2 mg NO3-N/g MLSS h during denitrification at C/N 3 were determined. Activated sludge from a municipal wastewater treatment plant in a concentration of 4.0±0.2 g MLSS/L was used in all experiments.
