Sažetak
In this paper, two examples of genetic algorithms (GAs) application are shown. The examples are the design optimization and steady state load point calculation of the salient pole synchronous generator. The fitness measure for the design optimization is based on maximizing the inverse value of (THD) total harmonic distortion of the flux density in the airgap. To achieve smooth pole face the optimized shape is defined using several control points and cubic b-spline functions. For the case of the load point calculation the objective of the genetic algorithm is to find correct value of the field current and load angle for a given terminal load condition. GAs are coupled to the 2D nonlinear finite element method.
