Sažetak
The article describes the library of Academician Duje Rendić-Miočević, an archaeologist, epigraphist and scholar in related sciences. Most of the Rendić-Miočević library is today in the Department of Archaeology of Zadar University, and a smaller part belongs to his heirs. The library is a complete and logical entity both in time and in content. Books, which are a means of bringing us information, knowledge and various kinds of insight, are, in fact much more than that. We select them, read them, inherit them, give them away, spend time with them, until they become part of our very being. Analyses of libraries usually show how little we really knew the owners, as we discover among them notes, dedications, dry flowers and memories… They form a basis for discovering what their owners read, learned, taught, what they did and who their friends were. I will try, through his library, to reveal the person of Duje Rendić-Miočević, student of classical archaeology and epigraphy, especially Illyrian onomastics and numismatics, and the Greek colonisation of Dalmatia (HL 1997, 7, vol 2:L-Z, 359), and show its importance for the cultural and scholarly community of Croatia.
